Surprised, disappointed and angry

“Given the detailed preparatory work that we understand had been done between the applicant team and the council and the recommendation to approve given to the councillors by their own professional planning experts, we are surprised that the councillors themselves rejected the application despite the advice of their planning officers.
We are also angry and hugely disappointed, as this decision is a major setback for the new stadium project, which our own surveys have shown is supported by 97% of City fans, and may place its realisation in jeopardy altogether.
We note that the Football Club and Sainsbury’s plan to take stock for a few days before commenting further. We hope that Sainsbury’s will submit a revised application or an appeal and that the Club will push ahead with the new stadium plans, even if there is now an inevitable delay.
We will now be looking with fellow fans at ways to express to the council the huge disappointment among many thousands of Bristol City supporters and city residents that this decision has created.”
